Space-Saving Advantages
Retractable Design Benefits:
- Maximises Worktop Space: Folds down when not needed
- Reduces Clutter: Clean, unobtrusive appearance when retracted
- Protects Spout: Less vulnerable to damage during travel
- Flexible Usage: Extends only when water is needed
- Professional Aesthetic: Modern, minimalist design
- Travel-Friendly: Lower profile reduces rattle and movement risk
Ideal Applications:
- Compact van kitchens with limited counter space
- Galley-style layouts requiring maximised work area
- Dual-sink installations where one tap serves multiple basins
- High-traffic areas where extended spouts create obstacles
- Conversions prioritising clean lines and minimal visual clutter
Hot Water Mixing Function
Temperature Control:
- Single-lever design allows intuitive adjustment
- Pull up for flow rate, rotate for temperature
- Mix hot and cold sources to achieve desired heat
- Prevents scalding with balanced mixing capability
- Quick response for on-demand temperature changes
System Requirements:
- Both hot and cold water supplies must be connected
- Hot water temperature typically 50-60°C from heater
- Cold water supply provides mixing capability
- Adequate pressure in both lines ensures smooth mixing
- Check valve recommended to prevent backflow between supplies
Usage Tips
Daily Operation:
- Extend spout when washing dishes or filling containers
- Retract when finished to regain worktop space
- Start with cooler water, gradually increase temperature
- Allow hot water system to reach operating temperature first
Water Conservation:
- Use retracted position reminder to turn off tap
- Navy shower technique for efficient hot water use
- Pre-rinse with cold water where possible to conserve hot supply
- Monitor hot water tank capacity for extended use
Maintenance:
- Wipe spout and base after use to prevent water spots
- Check retraction mechanism periodically for smooth operation
- Descale aerator quarterly in hard water areas
- Inspect connections monthly for any weeping or drips
Care & Maintenance
Regular Cleaning:
- Clean dark finish with mild soap and soft cloth
- Avoid abrasive cleaners that can damage coating
- Dry thoroughly after cleaning to prevent water marks
- Use vinegar solution for limescale removal if needed
Retraction Mechanism:
- Extend and retract several times monthly to maintain smooth action
- Apply food-safe silicone lubricant if mechanism becomes stiff
- Check spring tension - should retract firmly but not violently
- Ensure base seal remains intact to prevent water ingress
Winter Storage:
- Drain all water from tap body if freezing temperatures expected
- Leave in extended position during storage to prevent seal compression
- Check connections for any frost damage before spring use
- Test mixing function after winter storage
Troubleshooting:
- Stiff retraction: Clean and lubricate mechanism
- Water dripping when retracted: Check spout seal, replace if worn
- Inconsistent temperature: Check both supply pressures are balanced
- Leaking at base: Tighten mounting nut, replace base gasket if needed
- Reduced flow: Clean aerator, check for supply line blockages
What Makes This Tap Special
The retractable design is what sets this mixer tap apart from standard vanlife fixtures. In the space-constrained environment of a campervan, every centimetre of worktop is precious. This innovative solution provides full hot water mixing capability when extended, then folds away to create a flush, unobtrusive surface when not in use. The Dark Edition finish ensures it complements modern van interiors, while German Queensize Camper engineering means it won't fail after a few months of use. Unlike cheap retractable taps that feel flimsy, this unit features solid brass construction with precise machining for smooth, reliable operation. Perfect for van builders who refuse to compromise between functionality and aesthetics.
